Understanding the connection between ASML and TSMC’s lead on Intel

I have always thought, that TSMC had a lead on Intel through research and therefore more modern and precise “silicon wafer printers”, which would lead to their smaller transistor sizes.

Today I have learned about ASML and that they sell these “printers” to Intel and TSMC. So why can TSMC produce smaller transistor sizes than Intel, if they use the same machines?

And followingly, how does TSMC generate it’s lead and what part of the production process is the “bottleneck” on Intel’s end?
