Unveiling Ancient Secrets: Maury Povich, Zahi Hawass, and the Osiris Tomb Saga
Osiris, Khafre’s Pyramid, The Ark, Maury Povich, and Zahi Hawass…..
So, before we begin I want to say just cause I post, share, like or talk about something it doesn’t mean I believe it, endorse it or agree with it! It just mean I find it interesting. I really don’t trust any science that is promoted today from any outlet. This belief is even touted by Sabine Hossenfelder is several YouTube videos!
Now, to my point recently Italian scientists basically found a city below the Giza Pyramids and now have replicated the scan with the Tomb of Osiris to prove the technology works! So, that got me thinking about the Maury Povich TV Special with Dr. Zahi Hawass when they entered the Osiris Tomb and it was EMPTY!!!
Turns out the sneaky Dr. Zahi Hawass and his team entered the Tomb a whole month earlier!!! Why? Maybe to remove the mummy/corpse because finding the tomb of Osiris would be the equivalent of finding the tomb of Jesus Christ!!! Can’t have that on live television now can we!!! Dr. Zahi Hawass has also smeared Robert Schoch and Graham Hancock! Below we get deeper in to this subject with some great videos including, some from Funny Olde World with Jahannah James!
Osiris, Khafre’s Pyramid, The Ark, Maury Povich, and Zahi Hawass…..
In March 1999, the world tuned in to Fox Television’s Opening the Lost Tombs: Live from Egypt, a groundbreaking broadcast hosted by talk-show veteran Maury Povich and featuring Egypt’s most prominent archaeologist, Dr. Zahi Hawass. The special promised unprecedented access to the Giza Plateau, with the spotlight on the enigmatic “Tomb of Osiris” beneath Khafre’s Pyramid. What unfolded was a mix of archaeological spectacle, scientific intrigue, and whispers of conspiracy, including claims of CIA involvement with remote viewers searching for the Ark of the Covenant. Adding fuel to the fire, it’s alleged that Hawass had secretly explored the Osiris Tomb a month before the live event, raising questions about what was truly discovered—and what might have been staged.
The Osiris Tomb: A Mythic Discovery
The Osiris Tomb, also known as the Osiris Shaft, lies beneath the causeway connecting the Sphinx to Khafre’s Pyramid, the second largest of Giza’s trio. This water-filled, multi-level chamber, roughly 100 feet deep, has long fascinated scholars and explorers. Ancient historian Herodotus wrote of a burial site near Khufu’s Pyramid involving a granite sarcophagus and water, a description that aligns eerily with the Osiris Shaft. In 1999, Hawass, then Undersecretary of State for the Giza Plateau, presented the shaft as a symbolic tomb for Osiris, the Egyptian god of the afterlife, believed to govern the underworld’s tunnels.
During the Fox special, Povich and co-host Suzy Kolber followed Hawass into the shaft’s depths, with cameras capturing the dramatic moment. The broadcast highlighted a granite sarcophagus in a niche on the second level and hieroglyphs inscribed with “pr,” meaning “house,” linking the site to “the house of Osiris, Lord of Rastaw” (underground tunnels). Hawass claimed the shaft dated to the New Kingdom (circa 1550 BC), based on artifacts retrieved by a boy lowered into the flooded chamber. Yet, controversy swirled when it emerged that the tomb wasn’t a new find. Egyptian archaeologist Selim Hassan had excavated it in the 1930s, a fact Hawass omitted, leading critics to accuse him of staging a “discovery” for the cameras.
The Pre-Broadcast Secret: Hawass’ Earlier Visit

Adding intrigue, reports suggest Hawass entered the Osiris Tomb a month before the March 2, 1999, broadcast. While not explicitly detailed in primary sources, this claim aligns with accusations that Hawass used the live event to amplify his persona as “Egypt’s Indiana Jones.” Critics argue he explored the shaft beforehand to ensure the broadcast’s success, possibly to avoid a repeat of Geraldo Rivera’s infamous 1986 Al Capone vault fiasco, which revealed nothing on live TV. Hawass’ prior knowledge would explain his confidence during the special, where he navigated the shaft with theatrical flair, despite tripping over cables in a moment of unintended comedy.
This alleged pre-visit fuels skepticism about Hawass’ motives. Some, including alternative historians like Graham Hancock, accuse him of controlling Giza’s narrative to maintain tourism revenue and suppress unorthodox theories, such as those tied to Edgar Cayce’s prophecies of a “Hall of Records” beneath the Sphinx. Hawass’ slow drip of information, critics claim, keeps the public hooked while obscuring the full truth.
Radar Imaging: Tunnels and Towers Beneath Khafre’s Pyramid

The Fox special wasn’t just about the Osiris Tomb; it coincided with cutting-edge scientific efforts to probe Giza’s mysteries. In the 1990s, researchers, including Hawass and American archaeologist Mark Lehner, used remote-sensing technologies to map the plateau. These efforts uncovered anomalies, such as potential tunnels and chambers, sparking speculation about hidden structures. Also, most recently another researcher says he found the tomb of Jesus and the Ark of the Covenant, very similiar to the CIA findings!

More recently, a 2025 study by Italian researchers, including Corrado Malanga and Filippo Biondi, employed Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) to analyze the area beneath Khafre’s Pyramid. Their findings, though controversial, suggest a vast network of wells, chambers, and staircase-like structures extending over 2,000 feet below the surface. They also claimed to detect a sarcophagus-like object 656 feet beneath the Osiris Tomb, surrounded by water. Hawass, however, dismissed these claims as “fake news,” arguing the radar techniques lacked scientific validation and that no permits were issued for such work.

These disputes highlight a broader tension between traditional Egyptology, led by figures like Hawass, and interdisciplinary teams pushing technological boundaries. While the 1999 special didn’t delve deeply into radar findings, it referenced Cayce’s predictions and alternative theories, giving airtime to figures like Hancock and Robert Bauval, who linked Giza’s layout to the Orion constellation. The radar debate underscores the ongoing quest to uncover what lies beneath Giza, with the Osiris Shaft as a tantalizing clue.
The CIA, Remote Viewers, and the Ark of the Covenant

Perhaps the most sensational thread in this saga involves declassified CIA documents from the 1980s, which surfaced in 2025. These files, tied to the “Sun Streak” remote viewing program, claim a psychic located the Ark of the Covenant, the biblical chest said to hold the Ten Commandments. Remote viewing, a technique where individuals use extrasensory perception to “see” distant locations, was part of the CIA’s Cold War experiments. While some sessions focused on spying, others explored archaeological sites, including Giza.

In 2025, British anthropologist Dr. Paul Warner amplified this narrative, asserting the Ark, along with Jesus Christ’s tomb, lies in a hidden chamber beneath the Great Pyramid. Warner, who faced resistance from Hawass, claimed support from Egypt’s highest authorities but accused Hawass of obstructing progress. These claims, while captivating, lack corroboration and are dismissed by mainstream archaeologists as speculative. The Fox special didn’t directly address the Ark but set the stage for such theories by discussing Cayce’s visions of hidden chambers, which some link to the Ark’s mythical resting place.

The Fox Special: Spectacle Meets Science
The 1999 broadcast, watched by 29.5 million viewers in the U.S. alone, was a ratings triumph, scoring a 6.6 rating among adults 18-49. Beyond the Osiris Tomb, it featured the opening of Queen Khamerernebty II’s pyramid, which proved empty except for a suspected grave-robber’s skeleton, and the Tomb of the Unknown, revealing a 4,500-year-old mummy. Povich, an unlikely host given his talk-show background, defended his role, citing his reporting experience and the event’s gravity. “The more I got into this, the more I began to understand this is serious stuff,” he said.

Hawass, meanwhile, embraced the spotlight, blending showmanship with scholarship. His defenders, like Emory University’s Peter Lacovara, argue his high profile and passion brought Egyptology to the masses. Critics, however, see him as a gatekeeper, prioritizing fame and control over transparency. The special’s mix of live excavation, alternative theories, and bloopers—like Kolber stepping on a skeleton—made it a cultural moment, equal parts education and entertainment.
Legacy and Lingering Questions
The Opening the Lost Tombs special remains a landmark in archaeological broadcasting, but it also crystallized debates about Giza’s secrets. Was the Osiris Tomb a genuine discovery or a rehashed find hyped for TV? Did Hawass’ pre-broadcast visit compromise the event’s authenticity? Do radar images reveal a lost city beneath Khafre’s Pyramid, or are they, as Hawass claims, unscientific exaggerations? And could the CIA’s remote viewers have stumbled upon the Ark of the Covenant, or is it a fanciful footnote in Giza’s lore?
What’s clear is that the Osiris Shaft, with its flooded chambers and ancient sarcophagus, holds more secrets than Hawass revealed in 1999. As technology advances and new teams challenge the establishment, the truth beneath Giza’s sands may yet emerge—whether it’s a symbolic tomb, a hidden city, or something far stranger. For now, the saga of Povich, Hawass, and the Osiris Tomb endures as a testament to humanity’s obsession with Egypt’s past and the mysteries it still guards.
