DOWNTOWN — Residents can learn more about a proposal to reseed Washington Square Park at a community meeting Wednesday night.
The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Newberry Library, 60 W. Walton St., and is being hosted by the Washington Square Park Advisory Council, according to flyers posted at the park.
The council will discuss a proposal to aerate and reseed all four quadrants of the nearly three-acre park at 901 N. Clark St. During that time, all grassy areas would be fenced off and inaccessible from September through spring, according to the flyer.
“The purpose in doing this is to restore and beautify the park’s grassy areas,” the flyer states.

Representatives from the Chicago Park District and Ald. Brian Hopkins’ 2nd Ward office are expected to attend the meeting to answer questions.
Park District spokesperson Michele Lemons confirmed in an email to Block Club Chicago aeration and seeding is slated to begin this fall.
“The district is exploring options to maintain public access to the park while the landscape is being restored,” Lemons said.
