CHICAGO — The death of a Chicago police officer is under investigation after his body was found inside a South Side home Tuesday morning.
A CPD spokesperson said the officer’s body was found just after 11 a.m. Tuesday morning. Sources say the officer was found during a wellness check at his home in the West Chesterfield neighborhood on the South Side.
Sources told WGN News the deceased officer was a field training officer and had also tested positive for COVID-19, although it’s unknown whether it is related to his death at this time. The cause of death which will be determined by the Cook County Medical Examiner.
After the body was discovered, a procession of law enforcement vehicles escorted the officer’s remains from the home to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office on the West Side Tuesday afternoon.
