Chicago Today’s Matt Rodrigues, Cortney Hall … Chicago Today’s Matt Rodrigues, Cortney Hall to make cameo appearances on ‘Chicago Med’ traded their mics for scripts, landing walk-on roles in “Chicago Med”! From a surprise trailer reveal to running lines with the cast, they got the full behind-the-scenes experience—complete with a dramatic rescue scene. NBC Chicago’s Matt Rodrigues and Cortney Hall may be known for anchoring “Chicago Today,” but they both got a taste of a different kind of NBC program, making cameo appearances as themselves in Wednesday’s brand new episode of “Chicago Med.” Now in its 10th season, Chicago Med is airing its 15th episode of the season, which initially premiered on Sept. 25, 2024. Rodrigues and Hall, neither of whom had prior experience in the walk-on roles they have on Wednesday’s episode, gave a behind-the-scenes look of their experience on Chicago Today. For their role, Rodrigues and Hall traveled to a filming location well outside the city, in far northwest suburban McHenry. The Chicago Today stars were both greeted with their own trailers to prepare for their role, stocked with a TV, refrigerator and full bathroom with a shower. After getting their makeup done, it was time to head to the set to begin filming. Chicago’s downtown rebirth has taken a hit after the federal government and other high-profile companies announced decisions to sell and relocate from significant buildings. Why it matters: The Loop and the River North area are the economic engines of the city. The latest: Chicago’s premier tech incubator, 1871, announced it is leaving the Merchandise Mart after 13 years. The incubator, founded by now-Gov. JB Pritzker and fostered by then-Mayor Rahm Emanuel, was the anchor of the renovation of the Merchandise Mart in the 2010s. What they’re saying: “As an organization, we have continued to perform, but not at a level that allows us to sustain the real estate commitment that once served 1871 so well in the pre-COVID years,” CEO Betsy Ziegler said in a staff memo obtained by the Tribune. Zoom in: 1871’s decision to leave puts vacancies back in the spotlight. It comes on the heels of the Trump administration’s decision to sell some of the Loop’s federal buildings, namely the Kluczynski and Metcalfe buildings near Federal Plaza, while private companies like Ken Griffin’s Citadel are leaving their offices for a smaller footprint. Zoom out: The depressed commercial real estate market isn’t helping. Buildings aren’t selling for anywhere near the price they were bought for, forcing landlords to recoup their money in higher rents or foreclose on properties. Between the lines: The downtown reshuffling comes at a tricky time as companies push to get workers back in offices full time. According to return-to-office data for January, Chicago office visits were down 47% from January 2019. Here’s a great cover that totally changes a Simon & Garfunkel Song!!! Disturbed is an American heavy metal band from Chicago, formed in 1994. The band includes guitarist Dan Donegan, drummer Mike Wengren, lead vocalist David Draiman and bassist John Moyer. Donegan and Wengren have been involved in the band since its inception, with Draiman replacing original lead vocalist Erich Awalt in 1996 and Moyer replacing original bassist Steve “Fuzz” Kmak in 2004. Disturbed’s debut album, The Sickness, was released in 2000 as a commercial success, mainly due to the singles “Down With the Sickness” and “Stupify“. The band then released the albums Believe (2002), Ten Thousand Fists (2005), Indestructible (2008), and Asylum (2010), all of which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.[1] Disturbed went into hiatus in October 2011, during which the band’s members focused on various side projects, and released The Lost Children, a compilation album containing previously unreleased songs. They returned in June 2015 and released their sixth album Immortalized that same year. They followed it up with the albums Evolution (2018) and Divisive (2022). TAIPEI, Feb 15 (Reuters) – There is no need for one country to control the semiconductor industry, which is complex and needs a division of labour, Taiwan’s top technology official said on Saturday after U.S. President Donald Trump criticised the island’s chip dominance. Trump repeated claims on Thursday that Taiwan had taken the industry and he wanted back in the United States, saying he aimed to restore U.S. chip manufacturing. Wu Cheng-wen, head of Taiwan’s National Science and Technology Council, did not name Trump in a Facebook post but referred to Taiwan President Lai Ching-te’s comments on Friday that the island would be a reliable partner in the democratic supply chain of the global semiconductor industry. Wu wrote that Taiwan has in recent years often been asked how its semiconductor industry had become an internationally acclaimed benchmark. “How did we achieve this? Obviously, we did not gain this for no reason from other countries,” he said, recounting how the government developed the sector from the 1970s, including helping found TSMC (2330.TW), opens new tab, now the world’s largest contract chipmaker, in 1987. “This shows that Taiwan has invested half a century of hard work to achieve today’s success, and it certainly wasn’t something taken easily from other countries.” Each country has its own speciality for chips, from Japan making chemicals and equipment to the United States, which is “second to none” on the design and application of innovative systems, Wu said. “The semiconductor industry is highly complex and requires precise specialisation…

There is finally activity at 2636 West Evergreen Avenue in Humboldt Park. By: Daniel Schell 7:30 am on February 16, 2025 Construction is underway for a residential project in Humboldt Park that has changed hands since its building permit was issued. At 2636 West Evergreen Avenue, three new units are on the way, more than half a decade after the building they’re replacing was permitted for demolition. SIte context of 2636 West Evergreen Avenue, via Google Maps Real estate records indicate that a two-story multi-unit residence at this address sold in May 2018 for $256,000. Two months later, the City of Chicago issued a demolition permit to raze the property. The new owner applied for a construction permit to build three units on the site in December 2020. A reinstatement permit was issued for the new building in September of last year, with work required to begin by this month. An express permit program authorization was then granted on January 2 of this year, changing ownership to Live Once, and naming Amazing City LLC of Lake Zurich as the new general contractor. Yes, the classic Season 3 sketch was based on a real place. Which one, however, is a point of debate for the cast and writer. By Samantha Vincenty Feb 14, 2025, 2:54 PM ET When it comes to iconic early Saturday Night Live sketches, “The Olympia Restaurant: Cheeseburger, Chips, and Pepsi” ranks up there. Set at a bustling diner where customers can have anything they’d like (so long as it’s among the three items actually on offer), the proprietor and cooks played by John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, and Bill Murray quickly dispel anyone’s notions about ordering something else. Such as, oh, breakfast, or a single beverage that isn’t Pepsi.
