The Chicago area will see a warm-up over the next few days, with Thursday’s high forecast to hit 90. But don’t rush to the beach, because the warm weather will be accompanied by a chance of thunderstorms.
“Conditions will generally be warming over the next few days with 90s possible on Thursday! There’s also a chance for thunderstorms on Thursday, which may be strong to severe IF they develop,” the National Weather Service office posted on X.

Monday’s high reached the low 80s, with scattered showers expected to move in overnight.
Tuesday will see a high in the mid-70s with winds off the lake making it feel slightly cooler. There’s a 30% to 40% chance of rain and thunderstorms in the afternoon.
Wednesday will see temperatures in the lower 80s in the suburbs and mid-70s in the city, with a 20% chance of showers.
Thursday will be the warmest day of the week, with above-normal temperatures for May, with highs in the upper 80s to near 90 degrees across the city.
Late Thursday afternoon heading into the evening, there’s a 30% to 40% chance of thunderstorms.
Casey Sullivan, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Chicago office, said it’s uncertain whether those thunderstorms will develop. If they do, he said, they could potentially be severe.
Friday will see a high in the mid-80s with winds of 40 to 45 mph, Sullivan said.
Saturday and Sunday will have highs in the 70s, and no rain is expected.
