Did you know Cala lived in Chicago before she passed away!

When Cala passed away it broke my heart completely for days! Cala was a cat who became an internet sensation for her unique meows that sounded like she was saying “I go, meow”. She died of old age at the age of 12 in May 2024: 

  • How she became famous A video of Cala’s meows went viral in February 2024, and the video received over 100 million views and 16 million likes. TikTok user The Kiffness made a song called “I Go Meow” based on one of Cala’s clips, which also went viral. 
  • How her owner discovered her age Cala’s owner, Elizabeth Toth, adopted Cala from a shelter when she was young and full of life. However, after Cala became sick, Elizabeth took her to the vet and discovered that Cala was much older than she thought. 
  • How she died Cala died from kidney disease, which is common in older cats. Elizabeth shared the news of Cala’s death on TikTok and Instagram, and thanked everyone for loving Cala. 
  • Tributes Many people paid tribute to Cala, with some sharing videos using the “I Go Meow” sound in her memory. Many people shared their tears and sadness of Cala’s passing!
