CHICAGO PIXELS

SEMICONDUCTOR RESEARCH CENTER

Why are some semiconductors commodity like?

I have a question about how some semiconductor companies are viewed. I keep hearing about the cyclical nature of both chips and specifically memory, even companies like Amkor get described that way.

I guess from an economic standpoint I don’t understand why. Memory and testing and everything is constantly growing and there is demand, so why the fluctuations or cycles? I don’t need an answer but if anyone has good resources on this I would appreciate it. Most of what I can find on Google is vague. Thanks!
